Leukemia known as blood cancer is a disease in the classification of cancer (neoplasm) in the blood or bone marrow characterized by the abnormal multiplication or malignant transformation of blood-forming cells in bone marrow and lymphoid tissue, commonly occurs in leukocytes (white blood cells).

Normal cells in the bone marrow are replaced by abnormal cells. These abnormal cells out of the marrow and can be found in the peripheral blood. Leukemic cells affecting hematopoietic or blood cell formation process and the immunity of the patient.

The word means white blood leukemia, because the patients found many white blood cells. White blood cells are cells that look a lot younger, for example Promielosit. This raised the amount that can disrupt the normal function of other cells.

In 2000, there were approximately 256,000 children and adults worldwide suffer from a kind of leukemia, and 209.000 of them died from the disease.

The cause of leukemia is not known for certain, but some unknown factors that could affect the frequency of leukemia, such as:
  • Exposed to radiation in large numbers.
  • Exposure to chemicals such as benzene in the workplace.
  • Others are undergoing cancer chemotherapy.
  • Suffered from Down syndrome or other genetic problems.
  • Smoking.
  • Virus
Acute and chronic leukemia is a malignant form that emerged from the multiplication of cells forming the blood cells that are not controlled. Normal cellular control mechanisms may not work well due to changes in the genetic code that should be responsible for the regulation of cell growth and differentiation. Leukemia cells had recycled slower than normal cells. The processes of incomplete maturation, slow, and survive longer than a normal cell type.
